The first inhabitants of the peninsula of Búzios, before the arrival of the Portuguese, were the Indians Tamoios
and Goitacases.
After the discovery, the area of Búzios was invaded by the Portuguese and in 1555, for twenty years for
French.
It was normal in this time to find French and Dutch pirate ships in the bays of Búzios, or to attend disembarkations
of slaves.
With the abolition of the slavery the freed slaves of the neighbors farms of the area, founded the first community at
Rasa.
In the beginnings of 1700 the increase of ships transit in Guanabara bay loaded originally with gold of
Minas Gerais, it provoked the decrease of whale fishing, whose oil was used at that time as fuel for public illumination.
To solve this problem several "whale fortresses in Southwest coast" of Brazil was created, which one in Búzios. For half
century the city lived from whale fishing, at decrease and almost extinction of the mammal.
At that time the inhabitants from Búzios lived from fishing and trade him with the neighboring cities.
Everything changed when in 1964, in a trip to Brazil, Brigitte Bardot visited the city and she passed some days of peace
far away from photographers and interviews. The repercussion was big and Búzios changed his direction, turning destiny
of brazilian and international jet set. Among them, idols of brazilian soccer, big names as to Norwegian Royal family,
Mick Jagger, Bono Vox, Amy Irving, Dolph Lundgren, David Coulthard etc. they already walked at the famous Rua das Pedras,
point of Buzios nightlife, where to find the best restaurants, boutiques, beautiful people and a lot of movida.
Today Búzios with their 23
beaches is the 7th international tourist destiny in Brazil, with a good infrastructure for
guarantee unforgettable vacations.
